A BIT ABOUT US
Frightened Rabbit are a 4 piece band. Billy, Grant and I are from Selkirk and Andy is from Saltcoats.
Prior to getting signed to FatCat last August, we had released our material with a couple of our dear friends on the dormant (like a snake that’s too cold) label Hits The Fan. A series of demos became a wee album almost by mistake, which we called ‘Sing The Greys’. It was a little rough around the edges, and quite rough in the middle too, so we polished it up a bit before FatCat put it out last November. It did alright I think. People seemed to enjoy its innocent charm, which was all very well, but by the time it came out for the second time, the songs were old as fuck and we had moved on in a lot of ways.
So it came as a bit of a surprise to some that we cleaned up our act for the second album ‘The Midnight Organ Fight’. I’m not sure the hardcores liked it at first, but we were convinced of its merits and I think it’s done alright too. Better than the first one, and I don’t think you can expect any more than that, can you?
I think what I like about it is that although its slightly (all right, a lot) more commercial sounding, lyrically its almost LESS accessible and darker than the first. The songs were written quite quickly, most of them over the course of about 1 month in 2006, as opposed to the first record, which comprised of 7 full songs all written over the course of about 3 years. That’s not a good work ethic by anyone’s standards.
So here we are now. Taking it a bit more seriously and trying to work hard and play plenty of shows so that people can sing along to the songs in a room with us. We hope one day we can meet you in the flesh…
Lets get pop music out of that dress and into a sweater. FR x
